British-Iranian composer Mehran Rouhani, was born in Tehran-Iran in 1946. His musical training began at the age of eight. Although he achieved BSc in Economics, his love for music drew him to Tehran University, College of Fine Arts for further studies in Music.
Mehran won a full scholarship to the the Royal College of Music in London where he studied Postgraduate, MMus and Advanced Studies in Composition with Philip Cannon and Anthony Milner. Meanwhile he continued advanced composition lessons with the late Sir Michael Tippet.
After finishing his studies he moved back to Iran, where he held a professorship position at the College of Fine Arts and Tehran Conservatoire of Music for two years. In 2000 Mehran returned to the UK and continues to reside in London with his family and he often travles back to Iran to hold masterclasses.
Throughout the years he wrote many pieces which include two String Quartets, Three Symphonic Poems (including “The Little Black Fish” and “Shomaal – The North”, One Ballet for Large Orchestra, Clarinet Concerto, Iranian Serenade for Classical Orchestra, Two pieces for String Orchestra, Trio Fantasy No.1 for Flute, Guitar and Cello, and Trio Fantasy No.2 for Flute, Clarinet and Piano, over twenty Piano works, many pieces for Chamber Ensembles, Songs and Choral works on Iranian poetry.
Mehran has dedicated his life to musically nurturing many generations and continues to make significant contributions to the world of music. His compositions have been performed all over the world including Vinenna, Bulgaria, USA, Germany and the UK he has published albums in affiliation with the Hermes Records.
In 2016 he was comissioned by the UNICEF for a 'Peace' concert at the London's Barbican which was debut by his daghter, Honey Rouhani and the Docklands Sinfonia conducted by Spencer Down. Mehran enjoys a busy life as a composition professor and a composer.
