British-Iranian soprano Honey Rouhani is no stranger to the stage and the world of performing arts. She started ballet at the age of 4 and continued for fifteen years. Her musical journey began at the age of six: learning the piano with her father, acclaimed composer, Mehran Rouhani.
Honey graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal/Opera studies, where she was a Leverhulm Scholar in 2013-14. She has studied with professors, Alison Wells, Jennifer Dakin ARAM, Ameral Gunson GSMD, Ian Kennedy GSMD. She has also performed in masterclasses with Nelly Miricioiu, Linda Hirst, Joan Rogers, Neil Jenkins, John Hancorn and Ron Morris. She currently studies with internationally renowned soprano Joyce El-Khoury.
Honey obtained critical acclaim in 2020 as ‘Tosca’ and ‘Musetta’ in the Opera Undone’s production of Puccini’s Tosca and La bohème on the West End.
The Opera Magazine described her voice as “mature and beautifully oaky even in the upper register”. In her first appearance as ‘Musetta’ in 2017/18 (an Olivier Award nominated production), critics described her as a "an utter revelation", "a supremely entitled and manipulative Musetta" and the “most memorable part of the opera".
Her success in competitions include: ‘Finalist’ in The English Song at Trinity Laban in 2018 and ‘3rd Prize’ and ‘The Best Interpretation Prize’ at the ‘Montecatini International Opera Competition’ in 2018 in Italy.
Apart from life as a performing singer, since 2009, Honey’s teaching business has gone from strength to strength and enjoys a busy schedule of teaching singing, piano and musicianship privately and at various schools around London. She also conducts and directs various school choirs.
World premiers include Toni Castell's 'HHUMANN X' (performed at the LSO St Lukes, 2018); Mehran Rouhani's 'Love and Peace Quotes' (performed at The London Barbican Barbican Centre, 2016); and Babak Kazemi's 'Ode to Peace' (Cadogan Hall 2016 ). UK premiers include Reza Vali's Persian Folk Songs: performed in 2014 conducted by Spencer Down with the Docklands Sinfonia at in the show Epic Persia at Cadogan Hall; ‘Nightingale’ in Sarah Percival's play The Gate (performed at Leighton House, 2014 ); and Only sound remains by Soosan Lolavar (performed at the V&A, 2013).
Honey has also had the pleasure of singing with the ‘Pazardjik Symphony Orchestra’ in Bulgaria conducted by Peter Fender and in various opera galas in Dubai and Australia.
Honey’s repertoire includes: ‘Soprano’ in Verdi's Requiem (Docklands Sinfonia), ‘Soprano’ in Mozart’s Requiem, ‘Soprano’ in Rossini’s Petit messe solennelle, ‘Carlotta’ in Phantom of the Opera (LMTO), ‘Despina’ in a UK tour of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte (Dulwich Opera Company), ‘Musetta’ in Puccini's La bohème (King's Head Theatre and Dulwich Opera Company), ‘Phyllis’ in G&S' Iolanthe (East Surrey Choral Society), ‘Soprano’ in Mahler's Symphony No. 4 (Angel Orchestra), ‘Josephine’ in G&S’ HMS Pinafore (ELOC), ‘Magda’ in Puccini's La Rondine (Trinity Laban), ‘Sandman’ and ‘Dew Fairy’ in Humberdinck's Hansel and Gretel (Opera in Space), ‘Susanna’ in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (Trinity Laban), Chausson's Poem de l'amour et de la mer (with the Angel Orchestra conducted by Peter Fender), ‘Venus’ in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld (Trinity Laban - Blackheath Halls), ‘Soprano’ in Haydn's The Creation conducted by Nicholas Craemer (St John's Smith Square), ‘Tina’ in Dove's The Flight (Trinity Laban), ‘Opera Diva’ in John Cage's ‘Centenary Festival’ curated by Stephen Montague (Trinity Laban).
